Reckon | The Whole World's a Stage

I'm Chris: Poet, lover of academy and porch, sidewalk and turning row. I am looking for everyone discovering her hands and camera trying to overstand the in between.

"Civilization is entirely the product of phonetic literacy. As it dissolves with the electronic revolution, we rediscover a tribal integral awareness that manifests itself in a complete shift in our sensory lives....This new electronic environment itself constitutes an inner trip, collectively, without benefit of drugs. The impulse to use hallucinogens is a kind of empathy with the electronic environment." - Marshall McLuhan

Inspire Me

“Polaroid pictures are all the more fascinating now that they stopped producing Polaroid films. There are loads of Polaroid collections on the web, and here I tried to make a selection of those I thought were more beautiful and/or interesting than others…”

In My Sky at Twilight

pattonroberta:

In my sky at twilight you are like a cloud
and your form and color are the way I love them.
You are mine, mine, woman with sweet lips
and in your life my infinite dreams live.

The lamp of my soul dyes your feet,
My sour wine is sweeter on your lips,
oh reaper of my evening song,
how solitary dreams believe you to be mine!

You are mine, mine, I go shouting it to the afternoon’s
wind, and the wind hauls on my widowed voice.
Huntress of the depths of my eyes, you plunder
stills your nocturnal regard as though it were water.

You are taken in the net of my music, my love,
and my nets of music are wide as the sky.
My soul is born on the shore of your eyes of mourning.
In your eyes of mourning the land of dreams begins.
Pablo Neruda

People stand in front of a giant photograph by Australian artist Polly Borland which adorns the side of an apartment building in the central business district of Melbourne, on December 1, 2008. The artwork will stay for three to four months on the site where controversial pieces of art have been placed before. The photograph has brought mixed reactions from passerbys, from those who like it to those who have called it ‘obnoxious’.

Win, either way.

Mad Girl's Love Song

iamallface:

I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;

I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

God topples from the sky, hell’s fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan’s men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

God topples from the sky, hell’s fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan’s men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I fancied you’d return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

Essential viewing for an understanding of how we got into the mess we’re in, the pottage, the porridge, the perplexing Play and the power of the Word…it’s far too easy to stage a fight or two party system, though very expensive apparently…

Manufacturing Consent - Noam Chomsky (Torrent)

—via poortaste:

If you can handle the actual truth, or perhaps handle an opposing view of what you might believe to be the “truth”, then you should download this and watch it. Then you should think about it, and then you should research for yourself, and then you should draw your own conclusions to the points raised in this lovely film.

Ignorance is bliss but it won’t save us and the world as we know it.

msbadkittie:i second poortaste’s recommendation. also highly recommend the book.

“The film presents and illustrates Chomsky’s and Herman’s propaganda model, the thesis that corporate media, as profit-driven institutions, tend to serve and further the agendas of the interests of dominant, elite groups in the society. A centerpiece of the film is a long examination into the history of The New York Times coverage of Indonesia’s invasion and occupation of East Timor, which Chomsky claims exemplifies the media’s unwillingness to criticize an ally.” (via Wiki)

Grab the book closest to you. Go to page 56. Find the 5th sentence. Write that sentence in the text box.

The anarchic chaos of postmodernism has given artists the freedom to “carry their own ball” and be artistically responsible to themselves, but isn’t it time to consider the effect of art on one’s own health and the web of human relations?
